History of Nauyaca Waterfalls:

The name of the Nauyaca Waterfalls comes from a very popular snake in Costa Rica. Many years ago, when the reserve wasn't a tourist attraction, the local people found this amazing waterfall and decided to create a small pathway towards the falls. Along the trail they used to find this popular snake, whose real English name is Fer De Lance Pit-Viper. This snake was known as "Nauyaca Snake". Since this was a popular snake species, as well as a species to be careful with, people started to call the waterfalls as the Nauyaca Waterfalls. Nowadays the snake is well known as Terciopelo in Spanish. The waterfall will retain its iconic name as The Nauyaca Waterfalls.
