About Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio National Park is a small biological island. It was established in 1972 by the Costa Rican government who wanted to preserve the country's priceless wildlife. It is considered to be the #1 best park in all Central America and one of the 10 most beautiful national parks in the whole world by Forbes Magazine. Though Manuel Antonio National Park is the smallest park in the country, it is the most visited due to its charming combination of rainforest, beaches, coral reefs and wildlife.

The fauna is diverse: there are 109 species of mammals and 184 species of birds.

The park is home to some outstanding animal species, such as raccoons, coatis, agoutis, two-toed sloths, three-toed sloths, capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys and squirrel monkeys, an endangered subspecies endemic to the park.

Among the bird species living in the park, you may encounter toucans, pelicans, tanagers, ospreys, kingfishers and yellow-crowned night herons, as well as iguanas, lizards, snakes and countless varieties of insects.
